My students need a variety of books at beginning reading levels to help them move forward. They need to move into the wonderful world of books able to practice words in different settings, especially nonfiction!
"What are those strange shapes on the page? The teacher points to the shapes when she tells us the story, but I don't know what they mean. She says that everyone can be a reader, but I don't think she means me." For a struggling reader, these are the thoughts that consume them. When they are faced with books that are too difficult, these students feel defeated.
My students are happy, energetic students from a variety of backgrounds, filled with excitement for learning.
Many of my students are English language learners, and they require a lot of picture support as they are learning to read. Other students are struggling to make sense of print and how it works to convey meaning. Each one is delightful to teach, and each one deserves every opportunity to reach their full potential.
My Project
Beginning readers need a lot of different books to practice their new skills! These books will be used daily as part of our small group reading time, partner reading, and independent reading. The books will be accessible to my students throughout the day, enabling them to move forward in their reading.
My students will use them to share with their friends during a book talk, just like some of their parents do in book clubs!
These books will help reinforce the foundational skills needed for struggling readers to find success and become life-long readers! Thank you for helping us reach our goal!
