This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you give a class an iPad, it will inspire students to learn! The same is true of a Mac Air. But twenty-four students cannot crowd around such small devices and hope to see and learn. The accessories I am requesting will make our iPad and Mac Air accessible to everyone.

I teach a very diverse group of students.

Sixteen of my students are Latino, four are African American, and three are Asian/Pacific Islander. All of my students are eligible for Title I funding. Five of them are English learners. They are a bright and eager group who thrive with the help of technology. Because many of them come from families who cannot afford to provide them with cutting edge technology to enhance their learning at home, it is my goal to do so while they are in my classroom.

My Project

My students need an Apple TV, an HDMI cable, and a stylus to fully access our Mac Air and iPad. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org, our classroom received a Mac Air and a third generation iPad this year. It was my hope that the Mac Air would replace our older laptop for classroom instruction. That laptop has served us well, but it no longer has the processing speed my students need for fluid learning experiences. For everyone to benefit from the Mac Air, we need to connect it to our class projector. However, we do not have the adapter to do so. An Apple TV with an HDMI connector will solve this problem. With an Apple TV, every student will be able to see what is on the Mac Air's screen from anywhere in the room. They will be able to continue to watch Envision math videos and learn how to do internet research without having to worry about a slow connection. The Mac Air's powerful camera will also allow us to host our first Skype visit by children's author Adam Gidwitz. With the Apple TV everyone will be able to see Adam without having to crowd around one small computer.

The Apple TV will likewise enhance our use of the iPad for whole class learning.

Currently, the iPad has to remain connected to our projector in order for everyone to see its content. With Apple TV, our iPad can be mobile. It will allow me to travel the room and still be able to project content. Students will able to interact with the iPad without having to leave their seats. We have received some wonderful learning tools this year. We need an Apple TV to make full use of them!
