This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a great bunch. It's always a mix of abilities and personalities. As a teacher you'll get students who are overachievers, can doers, and the less than ambitious kind. Regardless of the students caliber, a teacher always asks the best out of them. This is why teaching art is a great way for all students to show what they can do.

My students come from a community that has one of the lowest poverty levels and almost 100% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches.

Regardless, my students come in with decent attendance and effort. There is always room for improvement. My students push through many obstacles and many times endure broken air conditioners and lack of funds for proper materials.

Students are not fancy, overbearing, or have a chip on their shoulders. They have a willingness to try and do their best regardless of their social economic status. My students have a funny way of thinking about things. One example is when students who do remarkably well think their work is subpar. This is when I say their work is beautiful. They disagree and keep working on it and sometimes, they redo the work.

My Project

Painting is a fun way to build confidence in a child. Watercolor is a medium that has beautiful, subtle qualities. There is so much that you need that we will not be able to teach my students how to use this medium. I am requesting watercolor pan sets which require the students to add water to a pan of color that is concentrated. This makes making color easier than the more tradition watercolor paint that comes in tube form. The color pans come in 16 colors and keep the paint palette simple and appropriate for beginning students. In addition to the paint sets, I am also requesting watercolor hot press paper which means that it will have a nice texture to paint on. When painting with watercolor, paper can sometimes be more important than the paint choice. The paper I'm selecting comes in ready cut size which means that students can easily frame their artwork in common sized picture frames. The watercolor pan set also comes with a built in mixing tray making the paint mixing better by not having too many parts to the painting process

My budget is very limited, but my curriculum doesn't have to be.

My students do not know the difference of various paint mediums so my goal is to teach them about many paint medium by actually using them which is the best and most effective way of learning watercolor.

My students will use the materials to paint portraits of people, animals, and buildings.

The project I want to teach is to express their views through people or things that inspire them. To go with the painting, students will write examples explaining why their subject demonstrates their influence on them.
