My Students

Our school is in a high risk area of the city. We are a Title I school and over 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our families struggle every day just to provide the basics for their children. Our school has a very high population of English Language Learners and many of our parents are also just beginning to learn English. Our school makes every effort to assist families with everything from food and clothing to supplies and transportation.

My students are eager to learn and enjoy coming to school every day.

These children just need a little extra attention to achieve at the level that is now expected by the new Common Core Standards. Providing them with opportunities to explore, collaborate, and learn is essential for their academic success.

My Project

In class, my students and I look for ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The children are cognizant of turning off the lights when they exit the room. They recycle paper, plastic water bottles, cans, and cardboard. We also have a worm composite in our classroom.

As Earth Day 2019 is approaching, I would like my students to discover ways to go green.

Through various books, activities, and composting, my hope is that they will take an active role in preserving the earth. I would like my students to have the opportunity to reduce and reuse by providing them with a canvas bag for their everyday use. The children will decorate a canvas bag and use the bag at home. The fabric markers will also be used to refurbish stained shirts and decorate paper bags for special art and holiday projects.

I am looking forward to empowering my students with tools to encourage their family and friends to reduce or totally eliminate the use of plastic grocery bags and switch to reusable bags.

Will you be part of the solution by donating to our class project? Will you join us and take the challenge to reduce, reuse, and recycle?
