Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a large, public, inner-city school in the Bronx. My students are wonderful second and third graders who struggle with learning due to learning, language, attentional or emotional needs. Learning a typical curriculum, differentiated to minimize the effects of their disabilities, the students are becoming problem solvers, reflective communicators, and active citizens of the school, community, and world.
Faced with "Blended Learning" this Fall, my students' will be challenged in new ways.
They will return to school for several days of live instruction and receive instruction online during the other days of the week. In the Spring my students and families met the challenges of "remote learning" with grit and courage. They showed perseverance while balancing work, technology/internet issues, illness, financial stress, food insecurity, and crowded homes. I want to ensure that the time we have in the classroom is used effectively for the important learning we have ahead of us.
My Project
I can't teach or give feedback if I can't hear my students and they can't hear me. Even at the best of times, In any classroom background noise (loud air conditioners, pipes banging, chairs scraping, hallway noises, etc.) is always louder than a person's voice. In this new reality I have to be six feet from my students to keep them and myself safe. With all of us wearing masks and perhaps face shields, hearing each other will be an extra challenge.
The sound amplification system will amplify and focus our voices so that we can be heard and understood.
