My Students
Our urban school has the incredible opportunity to maintain learning gardens (one here at school and one in the community). We want the children to be able to learn more about gardening through the use of our school's DVD collection and then apply these skills to our gardens!
Over 80% of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Many of these children do not have access to the selection of reading materials that children from more affluent families take for granted. Our children have a great hunger for knowledge, but often lack the materials to fulfill this appetite.
My Project
Our request is simple! We need a TV and DVD player to provide our children with the resource they need to access our school's collection of gardening DVDs. We hope to give our students more gardening knowledge and then use that knowledge to maintain two community gardens. For students in an urban environment, the chance to garden is one that we want to take advantage of. Gardening knowledge is power!
The achievement gap between children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and those from more affluent backgrounds is getting larger all the time.
This project will help me to give my students the chance they need to be better at understanding the world of gardening!
