Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are very resilient. Many of them are in difficult circumstances financially, spiritually, emotionally, developmentally. At our campus alone we have several hundred English-as a-Second-Language (ESL) students coming from dozens of countries around the world, as well as a large percentage of special education students.
Despite their difficult circumstances, our students continue to make progress in their academic and personal life.
My job is to help students find a path for a future career so that they can be contributing citizens of society.
My Project
Drawing and modeling are essential aspects of the design process. We need physical materials so they can learn about safety, craft, precision, measuring, scale, and visualization. With these materials, including foam board and t-squares, they will see their designs in three-dimensional form and be able to critique and improve. By building physical models they can start to understand how physical laws, like gravity, impact design and how materials are assembled. Using the t-squares to create working drawings will allow them to design with greater precision and learn trade skills that can increase their employment opportunities. Drafting and model making are fundamental skills that are used in industry and can help my students be more prepared for postsecondary life.
