Last year we implemented a LEGO Robotics Club at our school thanks to Donor's Choose. Our students fell in love with the EV3 Mindstorm sets and have been thirsty for more. We currently offer an hour long after school program on Mondays and Wednesday every week. And we still have students coming up to us and asking if they can just go work on their robot instead of going to recess. Right now we have 16 students in our LEGO Robotics, but we would love to see it expand even more. Our 4th and 5th grade team has a lot of drive and I want to offer this wonderful experience to more of our students.
My Project
This LEGO Mindstorm EV3 set would be used to expand our existing LEGO Robotics Club. We offer this experience as an enrichment tool to expand our student's interest in Technology, Engineering, and Science.
Having the hands on building and programming will help in continuing to expanding our STEAM program at our school.
We will use the extra set to add more students to our existing program. The LEGO Robotics program provides a challenge for students by using the engineering and design process to try things out and then make improvements on what they have created.
I am a firm believer in students having a hands-on approach to learning in the classroom and I feel as though the extra EV3 set will help us accomplish that.
A student seeing their creation moving around and accomplishing a task is a huge push towards more interest in STEAM careers, and that is what we are hoping to accomplish.
