This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids with a love of learning. At least 90% of them come from low-income households, with parents struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, these children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students are worried about food and shelter, but they are sheltering in place with basic classroom necessities that provide them with some normalcy, allowing them to participate in class online.
I am trying to meet their needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn Language Art, Math, and Science.
My Project
Wooden blocks are more than just building blocks. They are the cornerstone of the future. Do you remember building with wooden blocks? You may have made towers and tunnels, or roads with obstacles. You worked with your peers to created a community, a castle, or a racetrack.
Wooden blocks provide a chance for future engineers to design architectural structures and neighborhoods.
Wooden blocks will help my students design and build as they practice problem-solving, develop perception skills, and explore basic math concepts. Each block is based in size on the basic unit block so that students can build and add blocks with symmetry and proportion.
And if any block breaks or splinters within 50 years of the date of purchase, Lakeshore Learning will replace it at no charge! This means that your donation will inspire future contractors, engineers, and architects for the next 50 years! Thank you for your consideration.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
