Help me give my students the other basketball goal that is needed in order for my students to play a basketball game and become more active and engaged during recess time.

My Students

RECESS! To a school age child that is the best word in the English Language. Recess is such an exciting time of the day for children of all ages, especially, kindergarten through second grade. These students love to play, laugh, run, jump and just interact with each other through games such as kickball, soccer or basketball.

Recess time is crucial as it is documented as physically active minutes required by the state.

If children are not engaged in active, purposeful recess minutes, then we are not meeting the state mandated requirements. The playground is a place where students can become active and improve not only their physical lifestyle, but their academic learning as well. Research states that when students are physically active during the school day, they become engaged in learning in the classroom. They are better able to focus on their academic curriculum.

My Project

Childhood obesity is also becoming the leading challenge for schools across this nation. It is starting at an earlier age and continuing into a lifelong problem. The playground can become a place where students become excited about physical fitness as well as promoting positive healthy habits. Recess time also builds camaraderie, teamwork and leadership skills, which all coincide with our school's Positive Behavior System.

The next piece to our "Playground of Dreams Part 2, is a permanent basketball goal that is age appropriate for our students, so they will have a complete basketball court.

By adding this goal, recess time will be used being active, which will help reduce obesity, and improve their self-esteem. These objectives will be met through the addition of a new basketball goal to complete the basketball court, which will allow more children to participate in active and engaging recess time. With the addition of a basketball goal, their "playground dreams" will come one step closer to being complete.
