If We Can Get Our Hands On It, We Can Learn About The World!
My students need pH paper, cylinders and beakers to use in our chemistry investigations. A stereomicroscope will help us look closely at dry materials and objects.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. DeMers's classroom raised $484

My Students
Science is often the one class a day where students can actively work on their own to learn about the world around them! Our classroom experiences are all about getting our hands on the materials so we can wrap our brains around the world in which we live! Help us become better scientists!
Our students come from neighborhoods across the city and as an open enrollment public charter school we welcome everyone!
Our school is located in a Louisiana city with limited resources for its schools and students. Our students are enthused and excited to come to school each day and the promise of a hands-on lab investigation adds to their enthusiasm. Behavior problems do not exist in our science classroom, as students come in ready to work and are often working up until the moment class ends. The classes are full and seating in two of our classes is tight. The hardest thing for budding scientists to do is to wait!
Our beakers and graduated cylinders are in short supply and having more would enable more students to be engaged in the investigation! The use of simple chemistry testing materials like pH paper allows students to continue with their discoveries at home! Having a microscope to view materials would also lend some punch to their labs as they learn about their world!
My Project
I am requesting graduated cylinders and beakers so that students can get more time on task with measuring liquids for our labs, but this skill will also serve them as they build their math skills! Through the use of a stereomicroscope, students will be able to get a closer view of the materials we use in class and objects they may find on their own. Being able to see the details in a plant part, or a collection of sand grains, or the tiny organisms that live in the environmental waters nearby adds a wonderful dimension to their science investigations. I selected pH paper so that students may take our investigation into acids and bases and continue the science at home with their own familiar foods!
Bridging the home and school connection enables parents to share in our lessons and helps them connect directly with their child's science experiences. The students love showing off to mom and dad about what they know and can do!
Sometimes, the amount of time a student directly interacts with science materials can make or break their life-long love of science!
By supporting our purchase of additional measuring tools you are ensuring that each child will have a direct role in an engaging and memorable science lesson. Through your sponsorship you are touching the lives of at least 143 students in my school, who will benefit from the additional materials. You will be the benefactor of enthused, aspiring young scientists!
