Our students come from neighborhoods across the city and as an open enrollment public charter school we welcome everyone! Our school is located in a Louisiana city with limited resources for its schools and students. Our students are enthused and excited to come to school each day and the promise of a hands-on lab investigation adds to their enthusiasm. Behavior problems do not exist in our science classroom, as students come in ready to work and are often working up until the moment class ends. The classes are full and seating in two of our classes is tight. The hardest thing for budding scientists to do is to wait! Our beakers and graduated cylinders are in short supply and having more would enable more students to be engaged in the investigation! The use of simple chemistry testing materials like pH paper allows students to continue with their discoveries at home! Having a microscope to view materials would also lend some punch to their labs as they learn about their world!
