My Students

I'm fortunate to work with every child in my building. My students are a wonderful mix of age, ability, and socioeconomic status. A few are privileged, but many live in economically challenged homes. My school is one of two designated English Language Learning elementary schools in my district, which adds to the diversity.

My mission is to make sure every child leaves my school with the same set of skills and confidence, no matter their status.

Children feel welcome to visit the library to read, use technology, robots, LEGO, or puzzles throughout the day. For many, the library is the only access they have to these resources.

My Project

A few years ago I ventured into the world of maker spaces in my library. Maker spaces provide students with the opportunity to create, build, and experiment in a low risk atmosphere. Thanks to the generosity of Donors Choose donors I was able to obtain an wide array of materials for my students. The most popular element by far are the Lego.

When the Lego are out, there is never enough room at the maker center.

I freed up some wall space and I want to create a Lego wall in my library. This will expand access and allow more students to participate. The addition of the Community Starter Set and additional Lego bricks will give students more creative and engineering options.
