Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If we build it, they will come." Our students have no baseball field. Every year, we scour the valley, in search of a field to play on. So, we are going to build our own field. We will be purchasing bases and field maintenance equipment. Also, we will be purchasing baseballs and team equipment.
Our students are not your typical athletes.
They are honor students, who are involved in an array of extra curricular activities. They are involved in science decathlon, speech and debate, student body, drama, and band. Our school is known for its academics and arts program, and not for its baseball program; however, our students are hungry to compete for another championship. As John Wooden said, "Winning takes talent; to repeat takes character." Some have never played baseball before, but they have a desire to perform at their personal best.
My Project
With a baseball field on campus, students will be able to practice baseball skills during P.E. They will be able to run infield, outfield, and defensive drills. Students will be able to have scrimmages against each other, and actually have games on our own home field. Baseball does not only provide physical education, but it develops teamwork, group participation, school spirit, and life skills.
We are in desperate need of a baseball field.
We have volunteers; however, we need bases, anchors, and field equipment. By having a home field, students won't have to travel for every game, which means less time out of classes. Students will participate in maintaining the field, fostering a sense of school pride.
