My Students

I teach in a classroom for children with Autism in North Carolina. We believe our children are not disabled, rather they are differently abled. Our classroom is full of creative, smart and beautiful children ready and eager to learn. We are focused on reaching every success each child can reach and anyway we can help them achieve that we are all for. So please take a look at our grant and consider helping us achieve our goals.

My Project

We are a multisensory teaching classroom and now we are focused on the kinesthetic part of that so we can reach all of our students in the way the learn best. Our students have difficulties keeping still and focusing on work. Research has shown kids that have opportunities to move while learning take in more information than those who are sitting still. Our students need the hands on approach to teaching to help them understand the concepts. With providing our students a kinesthetic classroom not only are we able to teach them in a way they learn best but we are also providing movement for sensory needs as well as increasing motor skills that are deficits in our students. I am asking for two body cycles to be used during group time so the kids can move their feet while learning. I am also asking for balance boards and wobble chairs that help work on stability while allowing the children movement while learning. All of these are designed to help children focus on learning by allowing them to constructively wiggle. This is a great opportunity and we would be the first AU classroom in CMS to have a kinesthetic classroom so please help us pave the way. Thank you.
