"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." Joseph Addison. Every student yearns for that "mental exercise". Through reading books, they seek to increase the strength of their mind.
Daily, the students deal with a wealth of emotional and socioeconomic problems that young children should never be forced to face.
School is the escape for many of these students. It's the outlet that allows them to see past their current situation into their future beyond poverty. When given the opportunity, many of my students rise beyond all of my expectations. They love to learn. They love to experience brand new opportunities. My students love new adventures, especially through books. Whenever we finish one book, they yearn for the opportunity to read more. Unfortunately for them, many of their opportunities are limited.
My Project
The wireless headsets will provide an equal opportunity for auditory learners and students who struggle with focus during independent working and reading times. With these headsets, students will have the capability to listen to novels, in class reading assignments, or even calming classical music while working. Listening to narrated text can also increase comprehension levels in low level readers or new language learners. The best part about wireless headsets is the ability to be mobile and still be engaged in the reading. So if a student has to move because of distractions in their local environment, they can still utilize the headset in a different part of the classroom. Students will also have the opportunity to use the headsets during writing. Listening to good writing inspires good writing. Students will have the time to listen to books to generate good ideas about writing.
Many of my students love to read.
Others love to write. These opportunities provide a small sense of therapy in their chaotic worlds. Your donation will allow these students to step out of their current situation (even if it's temporary)into a destiny unknown to them. The possibilities are endless. This project will encourage
