Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in the gifted and talented setting. My goal is to identify and challenge my students who have a passion for learning. They love Math Mondays! They're ready for every challenge I throw their way and are used to me responding with a "thank you!" when they tell me something is hard. We are implementing a school-wide enrichment model for all students because we know students excel when engaged in high-interest learning. We work together as a team to strengthen our knowledge and look at the community as a format to share our ideas.
My students are shy, bold, leaders, learners, timid, fearless, reflective, risk-takers, multi-cultural, and most of all, thirsty for knowledge and a challenge.
They come into my classroom every day asking, "what do we get to do today?" This passion makes me strive to be a better teacher as I never want to disappoint them with my response.
My Project
Right now my amazing students are all learning online. We're experiencing together how to navigate this new world. I've discovered the 2 gallon zip lock baggie and welcomed "ding, dong, ditch" as a fun way to get materials to my learners. Every two weeks, I fill bags and run them by students homes. This is an important connection time for us.
I'm finding the more hands on materials I provide, the more engaged my students are in their learning.
As a result, I'm focusing my lesson planning on project based learning while infusing STEAM to cover my core content.
The problem I need help solving is getting these materials into kids hands. In the classroom, I wouldn't require a set of materials for each kiddo. In our new world, I do. I'm asking that you help fund this project for two units I want to cover. One is a coding lesson while the other is focusing on designing, creating, and building product prototypes.
