This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend school in one of the poorest cities in California. A Title I school, nestled in the rural Central Valley, the majority of our students are English language learners and qualify for free/reduced-price lunch. The majority of our students have parents who work in agriculture. Despite their socioeconomic challenges, our students are humble, genuine, polite, and outgoing. This is what makes them special.

Despite our challenges, we were recognized as a School-To-Watch in 2018.

We have spent countless hours preparing our students for the challenges they will face as they enter each phase of their lives.

My Project

Over the last few years, I have always wanted my students to build pyramids or mini-civilizations. I have struggled with how to do this. I recently realized that using building bricks would be a way to accomplish this. I am asking for 8 building brick sets and 8 base plates. One set of building bricks will be given to each group in my class. The base plates would be used as their starting point.

This type of project would be perfect for my kinesthetic learners.

This would be a hands-on project that I know my students would enjoy. Imagine the fun my students would have building Ziggurats and Egyptian pyramids when we are learning about those civilizations. Imagine the fun they would have building Mayan pyramids or a Roman Colosseum. This would be a project that would have my students engaged and learning.
