This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I don't want students just sitting using pen, pencil and paper. That's not the world they live in.

My students are talkative, creative, and curious.

They enjoy activities during which it doesn't seem like I'm trying to teach them something (although I am) such as drawing a veggie or fruit as a superhero and sharing its superpower with 4 people and then drawing the hero's nemesis and sharing again, or having teams of students build a 30-centimeter tower out of link cubes that will support the weight of a basketball. Many of my students have difficultly sitting still and quietly for an extended period of time in a "normal" classroom environment. They also live in a low income area, and some of them don't have many toys or books. A few don't even have crayons and paper at home.

My Project

By engaging in making my students will learn science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

I envision my students designing, engineering, and building projects using cardboard as the main construction material.

It's a material readily available at school. I hope the Makedo materials will make it an easy material to work with as well.

I've been reading about maker spaces. I hope to implement and maintain a maker space at my school.

The idea of a maker space has excited me. And an excited teacher means excited students who want to come to school every day.

Also, I already have four Dash robots, so I also requested some coding lessons for the robots.
