Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyone has heard of the integrated circuit, but could you actually wire one into a real working circuit? My students are learning to do just that. It begins with a sketch, moves to a circuit design software, and finishes with an actual circuit. But what if you were slowed down by a touch pad?
I teach in a Dallas ISD public high school with 65% low income student population.
Most of my Academy of Engineering students will be the first in their families to attend college. Our Academy of Engineering provides STEM electives for our students to take in 9 - 12 grade. Digital Electronics is the second course in the 4 year cycle.
The students love this class and are amazed by how their lessons and activities connect to their lives.
My Project
My Academy of Engineering students are all about hands on learning. In Digital Electronics they use laptops to design circuits which they are then able to test and actually build using hardware. The one thing we really need are mice for each laptop to aid in using this software. The software is a fabulous tool but was intended for use with a mouse. The laptop touch pads seem to add a layer of difficulty when the students are drawing and designing on the screen.

The students will be able to use the software so much more quickly and complete the circuits so they can move on to the hands on building of the circuits.
