This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of the students I work with have limited resources both at home and at school. I work with special needs students who are 3 to 4 years old in a preschool for all learners day program. My students come from a low-income background and many of them have phased difficult situations. To a lot of them my classroom is a safety zone where they are safe, cared for, provided with a breakfast and lunch, and where they can be themselves and no one will judge them. My students love hands-on material and visuals. Sometimes it is difficult to provide them with all the help they need because of lack of material.

My Project

Music is a very important part of all children. My students enjoy singing, marching, clapping, tapping their feet to the rhythm of familiar nursery rhymes, and they enjoy the sound of music and instruments. Unfortunately, we have a very old set of instruments that are falling apart. My students would benefit from a new set of instruments by giving them the opportunity to have access to a rich sensory environment through instruments. This would allow them to be exposed to a variety of instruments with different textures, sounds, and colors.

Allowing my students to have access to instruments is beneficial because it gives them the opportunity to connect music to sounds, movement, and it gives them the opportunity to actively participate in music and movement activities.

My students will enjoy having access to instruments they can shake, bells, rattles, shakers, tambourines, and sticks that they can use while singing and dancing.
