This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a special education class for grades kindergarten through third grade. My students all have special needs, some severe or profound, including nonverbal, autism, ELL or ADHA. My students have a wide range of abilities. My students are all different and unique in their learning styles and abilities, but each one is special to me. My students are very eager to learn and always try their very best. Our school is located in the Black Belt area. It is a Title I school. All of the students at my school receive free lunch.
My students are full of energy and always up for a challenge.
Anytime we are able to present them with an opportunity to spark interest in something new they become excited. The empowerment that my students gain from the opportunity to succeed using various materials in the classroom is a joy to see!
My Project
My students require explicit and direct instruction to learn. I want to be able to provide my students with an optimal learning environment during instruction. Even though I have a small group setting, my students find it hard to focus. I need a tool to bring the group together. Having a television screen in my class would allow me to project lessons from the computer and get everyone focused on the same page. Being able to project parts of the lesson on a television screen will help with explicit and direct Instruction. It will allow me to transition through different parts of the lesson beginning with modeling and ending with the goal of independent practice.
My students would benefit from visual, audio, and kinesthetic access to learning!
