My Students

I love spending my days with my awesome 3rd graders! They walk into our classroom full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.

I teach at an environmental focus neighborhood school in Portland.

I love working with children because they are creative, curious, and positive! Their positive attitudes inspire me daily. If you could meet them, I know they would inspire you, too!

My Project

These materials will help students show and express their gender identities to our larger learning community. I have students take photos of themselves and then use the photos to design welcome signs that introduce their name and preferred pronouns. I have been struck by how strong and confident my third graders are— they really have no problem explaining who they are and their preferred pronouns. It tends to be adults who have a more challenging time shifting away from stereotypical gender norms and assumptions. That’s why I’ve made sure that our class door, name tags, and class rosters all clearly list pronouns. This camera will help give students a voice to say.. THIS IS WHO I AM AND MY PRONOUNS MATTER!
