it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of very energetic and opinionated learners. We are a small, charter school with a lot of challenges, but we always strive to make the best of it by providing quality learning experiences to our students.
For many of my students, school is a home away from home.
Some of our students start the school year shy and unsure of themselves, but quickly they become confident in their learning and their true colors start showing. In our classrooms, we make sure every child knows they are part of a team and a school family. They love working together to help each other learn and succeed.
My Project
Our limited classroom library is made up of old donated books that have seen better days and are not very appealing to students. To make things even more challenging, most of our books are paperbacks which means they don't last longer than a school year since 7 year-olds don't always know how to be gentle.
When young students are learning to enjoy reading it is important for them to have access to books that are as diverse as them.
For children to see themselves in the illustrations of characters they are reading about is unforgettable. Having hard-cover books with amazing stories means they will last for years to come and be enjoyed by an endless amount of students who come through my classroom.
