Identity & Independent Reading for Lunar New Year!
Help me give my students great works of literature by new Asian American writers for independent reading!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Dishner's classroom raised $246
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our high school in NYC we have a large Asian-American population. In 11th grade English, many of our students enjoy reading The Joy Luck Club, The Best We Could Do, and Warrior Woman. In these classic works they find connections to their own lives, and the lives of their families; for once THEY are the story on reflected on the page. I encourage my students to read independently for extra credit, but our book collection does not have many Asian American works of literature. This new collection of books will enable my students to continue their journey into the world of writing and literature, but also explore new Asian-American writers and voices.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
