My Students

We are a low-income school in Chicago, but that doesn't define who my students are. My students care a lot about their family, preserving their culture and heritage. They care about their neighborhood and are respectful of their learning environment. They are dynamic, hardworking and dedicated; and I want to provide them with a welcoming and flexible learning environment.

I want my students to be able to find a book that they can identify with and fall in love with reading.

My Project

I would love my students to be able to embark on reading adventures with characters that they are able to identify with.

It is difficult to create a yearning and love for reading in students, especially teenagers, but that is what drives me; I want students to fall in love with reading just as I have.

In order to do so, students need to have reading materials that they want to read and that they are able to identify and connect with. By providing them with different reading materials it will open up an array of options and I hope this will open the door for them to fall in love with reading.
