My Students

All people are makers... finding the medium is essential. In our Design Lab, students are creating using different mediums. The iPad minis allow students to create as well as document their learning.

Our SP Design Lab is a space where students K through 5 come during and after-school to create and learn.

Our students come for many different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds but the ability to create is innate in all of our students. Our SP Design Lab provides many different materials for students to create in the physical and virtual world. The iPad Minis help students who want to work on coding in apps or for our Spheros, create for the 3D printer, document their learning through apps, or create a movie through animation or stop motion. It is important for students to have access to materials that engage and encourage them to create. It is also important that students share what they are learning and iPad minis help students to document their learning using images, videos, and audio.

My Project

The iPad Minis with cases and tripod have a dual purpose as a creation as well as a documentary tool. Creation is central to the SP Design Lab. The iPads facilitate students creating videos or movie trailers. Also coding apps give students the opportunity to learn programming like Scratch Jr. as well as manipulate and program our Spheros. 3D printing apps allow students to create and print 3D designs. Documenting learning is the other important purpose of the iPads. Students capture images and videos to document a project to share their learning process or to create how-to videos. The iPads make this process much simpler because students are able to do it all within one device and then share their work.

The addition of iPads to help more students have access to a tool to both create and document their learning will have a very positive impact in our SP Design Lab where all of our students are learning and creating.
