Our close-knit, Title I school is located in a beautiful country setting. The students are energetic, curious, and work hard. The parents are positive and the community is a great resource of support.
The students come to school each day to learn so that they can be positive and helping participants in society.
The students work together to support one another both in the school and outside of the school day. Whenever a need arises in the community, our students are always there to lend a helping hand. Therefore, when we can help to pay it forward to the students, we jump at the opportunity.
My Project
I was inspired to create this project by the winning project, "Actually, It is Rocket Science!" My students will study positive female role models from the Lyda Hill If/Then Collection such as Sydney Hamilton who is a mechanical engineer, Kelly Korreck who is an astrophysicist, and Jasmine Sadler who is a rocket scientist and aerospace engineer.
My students will learn about careers in STEM watching these videos.
Students will be able to use the Surface Pro to do research on other women in STEM. Afterwards, students will use the Surface Pro to record and create presentations from their research. We will then be able to share our presentations with other classrooms to encourage others to look at a career in the STEM world. The surface pro and pen will be technology that the students will be able to use. We will be doing a wax museum where the students research a person and share information about that person and dress up like them. This will be a great way for the students to video tape themselves with their presentation and then share virtually with family, and peers in the school.
More than half of students from low‑income households
