Help me give my students an iPad which will enable my newcomers to use QR codes as a quick, fun way to supplement their language acquisition with audio and visual prompts.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students range from Kindergartners to 5th graders. The majority of my students are immigrants who have just arrived this school year, and do not speak English at all. My migrant students are intelligent, capable, and have the desire to learn but struggle with a language barrier. How would you feel if you could not look at a picture, see a word, or hear a phrase, and have no idea of what it means? Their potential is great, and their needs are many.
Scannable technology provides opportunities for newcomers to quickly and easily interact with a variety of content.
In a differentiated classroom, children should have access to resources and support materials that will push them toward success. QR codes/ iPads will be used as tools to help scaffold, supplement, and increase motivation, student engagement, and enhance learning.
My multilingual learners will be able to work independently and actively engage in small group discussions by scanning QR codes, hearing the words, seeing pictures that match, and even creating and viewing short video clips. The iPads will also be used to help migrate learners, not only with listening and speaking, but with reading and writing, through a wide range of educational APPS and websites. The possibilities with this technology are endless!
