This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an integrated collaborative teaching (ICT) first-grade class, with a mixture of general and special education students at a high-needs Title I school in the Bronx. While the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental involvement, they are enthusiastic and come to school every day ready to learn. They see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and love to make me proud.

My first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and they inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

I have found that my students are most successful when their learning activities involve various modes of learning. iPads are a great resource for the classroom because several apps provide opportunity for immediate visual and auditory feedback while providing the students with kinesthetic (movement) input. By having iPads in the classroom, my students who are not working with me can work independently on the iPads. They can work on math, reading, writing, phonics, as well as social skills on them. Students will be able to listen to books, research and create projects on the iPads. It will make the work they do more engaging and specifically adapted to their academic needs. Having an iPad will improve my students' learning, and they are eager to learn!

Early intervention is a vital time to establish essential skills.
