My students are a part of a competitive magnet school program in Birmingham, AL. They are highly intelligent and well rounded. They demonstrate their excellence by having top scores in the district, achieving top ranks in Math tournaments, and winning championships in various sports. My students work hard daily to break through the barriers minority students face.
‘Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.’ –Benjamin Franklin. Teaching during a pandemic has caused teachers to stretch beyond comfort zones and think outside of the box. We have been tasked with teaching students in their various home environments and constantly thinking of ways to keep each student engaged. As a math teacher, it is imperative that all my students are able to see processes. Traditionally, this would be shown in class on the interactive whiteboard that all students can see. Currently, my district is teaching students in the classroom and virtually simultaneously.
Using an iPad and Apple Pencil to model math concepts will ensure that students at home and in the classroom receive high-quality instruction daily.
Unfortunately, the purchase of these items to improve the virtual learning experience for my students falls solely on me since teachers have not been provided additional virtual instruction tools. To date, I have been using my personal equipment, but it is out of date and frequently crashes mid lessons, which is inefficient and detracts from instruction time.
The products I have selected will benefit my students by allowing them to see each step of a process. The 32 inch TV selected will help me to better see the students who are learning virtually. The larger screen will help me to monitor their facial expressions and body language to determine if there is any confusion. This is vital as it allows me to address concerns and reteach before moving on.
