My students need STEAM and IB related materials that will support our goal of having 22 creative IB STEAM Homework Mystery Boxes that will operate as our family homework activities.
We are a diverse group of students who seek to fund an inquiry based homework project.
We would like to have hands on experiences with STEAM and IB that would foster a rich understanding and experience within STEM, ARTS, and International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profiles and attitudes.
This group of students is very eager to have this sort of experience in our classrooms. Students have been working hard to create a classroom community that celebrates learning through STEAM in an IB classroom and we would love to continue that learning at home.
My Project
Our students attend and International Baccalaureate school where they learn throughout the year about our IB learner profiles and attitudes which are: IB learner profiles (balanced, principled, caring, inquirer, thinker, knowledgeable, communicator, open minded, risk taker, reflective, open- minded) IB attitudes: (Appreciation, Commitment, Confidence, Cooperation, Creativity, Curiosity, Empathy,Enthusiasm, Independence, Integrity, Respect)
My goal is to allow families to learn about IB through homework that connects our profiles and attitudes along with using STEAM activities to support this learning.
Hands-on learning improves students lives and adds value to what they hold as important. I want to be able to have students remember our goals in a real way. STEAM is important to enhance students critical thinking and problem solving skills and IB learners do just this on a daily basis.
I will create 22 IB STEAM Homework Mystery Boxes that will have 1 learner profile or IB attitude focus inside to learn about with family, along with a book and STEAM activity to match. With our story kits for example, as children read the stories, answer questions and complete each STEM challenge, they'll build critical language and literacy skills, boost creative expression, master early engineering concepts. This will mean so much more as homework because it will be done with their family, which will add value to the work and family home/school connections.
