I'm a first year teacher at my school and we have an amazing relationship because I was a student teacher in their class last year.
I am very fortunate to already have a relationship with them despite us being fully virtual this Fall.
They are smart, and dedicated students who have adapted to this new way of school. We are a family neighborhood school which allows for the relationships to last. I am so proud of my students!
Due to the pandemic, they are not able to read physical books as much. They LOVE reading and they love having discussions.
My Project
The book's origin story is what gravitated me towards it. The author's son cried after seeing a little girl with facial disfigurement and she made it worse by trying to avoid the girl and her family.
A song by Natalie Merchant entitled, "Wonder", also gave her motivation to write.
The incident resonated with her and she saw it as a lesson learned and a lesson to give.
This year, with ALL that is going on, grace and understanding need to increase. I want my kids to read this book as a class to punctuate our Community Circle lessons social-emotional learning and develop a sense of community, even online. It is imperative!
