Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I provide instruction to an amazing group of students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, ranging from second to fifth grade. Majority of students are below grade level standards in reading either by one or two grades. I implement intensive reading instruction to my students through the use of formal and informal assessments, provide instruction through research based reading programs, and progress monitor students weekly.
My students have made so much progress as they have become active and determined to learn strategies to help increase their reading.
Many of my students are on different levels where some require additional resources such as activities that incorporate all modalities (hands on, kinesthetic, visual, etc) in learning activities. By integrating these, they are excited to read as they participate in activities. Their eagerness wants me to expand and find more resources that interweave with our programs and continue to meet the needs of all students.
My Project
Throughout the day my students receive instruction in small groups. They rotate to three different teachers as they engage in intensive reading activities. Each rotation lasting three minutes. Due to having three groups running at the same time, noise level and distractions can become an interference. Focus being one of the attributes that many of my students have: difficulty staying on task and disengaging from the lesson by observing their surroundings. When they are not focused they can miss essential skills that they need in order to read. By having privacy partitions and a room divider, this will address the environmental stimuli as they gain and learn the skills they need to be successful.
