My Students

We have wonderful 5th graders in our small town. They are energetic, smart, and friendly. Even though we have 5th graders reading at various levels, the majority of them have many choices of books from our school library.

However, quite a few of them are reading above the 1000 Lexile Level.

They are very strong readers but our school library is geared toward the second, third, and fourth grade students who share our school. The students I want to purchase some books for are the strongest readers in the highest grade in our building.

My Project

These books will enrich the reading of fifth graders who are reading at a high level. Since second, third, fourth and fifth graders attend school in our building, the school library mainly contains books that cater to lower readers. I want to give the high readers in fifth grade the chance to have a great selection of books to choose from like the other children have through our library. Overall, I want to continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy selecting books they can read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them stretch and continue to enjoy independent reading time.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.

My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
