Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? Well, my students have not yet discovered books that captured their imaginations, because they need to learn the basic of reading.
I have the pleasure of teaching a class of 12 unique Special Education students in a high need community in New York.
I taught the same Special Education students for 2 years and we need the resources to teach them to read. We need phonics games, reading comprehension books and phonic awareness resources. We are in need for these resources. The parents cannot buy these books. Ninety-eight percent of the students receive free lunch and are in need of resources such as books and games.
My Project
We are in need of these books and games because my students can learn the early reading skills such as phonological awareness. We will have centers with these books and games for the students to practice everyday. We will also use these resources for guided reading, shared reading, center, phonics center, and vocabulary center. I know my students, these books will help them practice reading every day in school and at home. Some of my students love reading, and are hungry to read however they are limited with resources to help them succeed.
