This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach 4th grade Social Studies and Language Arts in a rural school.

Our community is very diverse with many cultures represented.

Over 80% of our children qualify and receive free or reduced-priced lunch, which means many of our children live in poverty. We are also experiencing a growing number of families that are homeless. Even though our children come from disadvantaged homes they come to school happy and so excited to learn. They know that they will go away with new knowledge every day.

My Project

We are a school that has one to one use of iPads in the classroom. We are using the iPads everyday in some capacity. They research, read books, and create projects using the iPads. Many times they need to use headphones but the ones that we have now are either broken or only work part of the time. My children need new headphones to use while they are listening to a story for reading or listening to a magazine article being read for a research project. Headphones will enable my children to enhance their reading skills by listening to stories and broaden their research abilities by listening to higher level articles that would be above their reading levels.
