My students need 16 new "I Spy" library books to read and look through during library time.

My Students
We are an inner city Expeditionary Learning School, grades K-9. As the librarian, I am always challenged to provide quality reading books to my students. My kids just love the "I Spy" series and can't wait to sit down and read them. Unfortunately, we don't have enough books to go around.
Once my students enter the library, they are always looking for that "new" exciting book to read.
Many of our students constantly challenge themselves and are happy to choose from the books I have. However, so many of our students read below reading level. For them, choosing a book that they can actually read and comprehend is a challenge. I was fortunate enough to be given a few "I Spy" books and they were an instant hit. The colorful pictures lure the kids right in to the book and the limited use of words doesn't scare these kids away. They love the fact that they are "reading" and at the same time, I love the fact that they are engaged in the book and actually learning key vocabulary words. These students spend hours looking at the pictures and trying to find hidden objects within. The "I Spy" books are similar to the "Where's Waldo" books, but each one is build around a specific theme. My non-English speakers especially can relate to these books and find them fascinating.
My Project
My students need 16 new I Spy library books to read and look through during library time. Unfortunately, my current library budget does not allow for me to purchase any new books this year. Like many inner city schools, my budget has been slashed to zero and I need to rely on alternate ways to fund resources for my library. I chose to ask for these specific books because they are the type of books that can be used from Kindergarten, right through ninth grade. It really doesn't matter how old you are, these books just draw you inside and before you know it, you have read the entire book. Because these books will be housed in the library, they will be used not only this year, but for years to come. I have chosen only hardcover "I Spy" books that should stand the test of time.
The more a child reads, the more he will learn.
I love to see my students excited about books and happy to read. I know these books will just fly off the shelves. Like all children, my students love shiny new books and they love to read. It is so important to offer all types of books, and my students who are challenged readers will be overjoyed to see these books. Thank you for your consideration of this project.
