This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As educators, we are constantly trying to expose our young learners to new academic material or information. We strive to promote critical thinking and engagement, while encouraging students to ask questions or make hypotheses. In order to continue fostering what we are working towards, the microscopes that we are requesting would help tremendously. Microscopes would allow for our students to see and learn about our world through a different perspective, while helping to hopefully create a lifelong passion for science and exploration.
Our goal for this project is to foster a sense of wonder and curiosity, while sparking the potential for future scientists.
More than half of our students have never been exposed to a microscope in their lifetime. For those students who have some awareness of a microscope, often times it's due to seeing one on TV or reading about one in a textbook. Having the opportunity to witness our students see what their naked eye cannot, will be a wonderful moment. Through this type of experience, we are hoping that our students can develop a deep appreciation for science and life.
My 5th and 6 grade students who are in the Aut-Core program get mainstreamed on a daily basis. Having my students get mainstreamed has created so many opportunities for my students. Mainstreaming has allowed for my students and me to collaborate with our peers/colleagues on a more frequent basis. Learning that my students were going to learn about cells and microorganisms only inspired us to want to find a way to further engage and reach our students academically.
