This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and our families are mostly hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.
Puzzle books have become a huge hit with students in our library media center - this collection of Search & Find, I Spy, and Where's Waldo puzzle books will be a well-loved addition!
Our library collection needs to include books that students want to read and explore, about topics that are of interest to them. It's so important for students to have access to the books that they want to read, to keep them motivated and foster their love of reading and learning! This is especially true for our emerging readers and our English Language Learners. Studying illustrations and practicing observing details in pictures is a great way to enjoy and discuss books without needing to access too much text. These books will provide access to many of our students, and will also make a fun center in our library media center!
Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and as I continue to cultivate it into a 21st century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students are accessing!
