My students need yoga balls and bungee chairs to allow student movement through lessons and independent practice. Surf desks and lap desks allow students to spread out on the floor to work.
5th-grade students are becoming more and more independent and relish in their ability to make choices. My students vary in terms of academic, social, and fine and gross motor abilities. There is an equal mix of males and females and the ability to choose a seat that best meets their individual need makes for an extremely successful year. As they will go to middle school next year, this project will allow them the power to start making appropriate choices independently.
My Project
Students learn and are able to take ownership through choice. Allowing choice within a classroom helps the students take responsibility for their actions, choices and positive working environments. Bungee chairs and yoga balls allow slight movement through lessons. Floor mats and desks help students spread out throughout the classroom, while still allowing a productive working space. This also creates natural areas for collaboration.
Flexible seating choices are designed to help foster and create a positive learning environment that addresses each of the students' needs.
Students are able to move throughout the day and are not glued to one desk throughout the day.
By employing a flexible seating arrangement in my classroom, I am empowering the students to make a choice that allows them to be as productive as possible throughout the day.
