What is tall, awkward, has large feet, and doesn't always smell the greatest? Teenagers, of course! I work with some pretty amazing young adults in my high school English classroom. Deciphering Shakespeare and tapping into their imaginations while describing a made-up character can be challenging at times.
My students continually surpass my expectations with their creativity and consistent efforts.
I would like to make them a bit more comfortable while they develop their unique abilities. I am working with super-humans that wish to be teachers, doctors, veterinarians, computer programmers, and business owners. Each child is shaping their own future, yet I have them all sitting in the same square spaces.
My Project
Alternative seating would allow my students to stretch out on the floor to expand their creative space. Kids who are sore from extracurriculars would be able to find a comfortable position. Some of my super tall, or super energized children, could stand or sit at a height appropriate table.
I feel that if students are more comfortable, they will be more receptive to learning.
The more willing a child is to listen to the lesson, the more knowledge they will retain.
No one likes to sit on a hard flat surface all day; add to that long legs, larger body size, bony backsides, and healing injuries, and that is just asking for unhappy young adults.
