My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information while integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom, and they aren't afraid to try something new.
Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.
My Project
My students love picture books. However, they have been asking for more books. When we finish reading a book aloud, I ask if anyone connected with it. Because of the diverse makeup of our community, I would like to offer a more diverse selection of books to kids during our reading parties. Having kids see themselves in books is critical to their social emotional health.
Kids who connect with books can become better readers while learning more about their world.
Maya Lin: Artist-Architect of Light is a book about the Asian American artist who designed the Vietnam Memorial. There Might Be Lobsters is a picture book that can help kids with their worries. The singing plush cupcakes are a great way to celebrate birthdays in our class. I am so excited to build a classroom library that will resonate with students for years to come.
