My Students

It is incredibly difficult to plan for the school year during the pandemic. We are adding another complex layer during this modern civil rights movement. At this point in the summer, many families have expressed a desire to learn from home or some hybrid of distance learning.

It's hard to imagine how to teach ELA from a distance but we know that it must be done.

A large focus of distance learning has been centered around technology - but students still need books!

My Project

We are still unsure if we will all be together in school or if we will be utilizing distance learning - either way, my students need books! We have switched curriculum this year and I couldn't be more excited.

We want to ensure that we have books in our classroom that reflect not only the new curriculum but the students inside the class as well.

A few of the main topics we will be covering this year are ancient civilizations, The Civil War, westward expansion, immigration, and fighting for a cause. I want to ensure that we have diverse stories and perspectives included in our literature. I want my students to see how their ancestors were represented in history through that literature. I also want to ensure that we are providing the views and experiences of all sides of history.

Many of these books will be used as "take home" books for students so that they have access to rich literature at home.
