My Students

My incoming 3rd graders are diverse, eager, and excited to dive into another year of learning and growth! Many of them are multicultural minorities coming from low-income households.

While they are entering 3rd grade many of them are still struggling readers.

My new students are sharing, caring, and active members of the classroom. They are eager to learn and and develop a love for reading. It'll be their first time exposed to more advanced reading levels and books in the classroom.

My Project

These books will help build a classroom library that will keep students coming for more! I strive to help my students see themselves in the characters in the books shelved in our classroom. The books chosen are based on student requests and interests. This year my students have been invested in our class library, but limited on the series they love the most.

The variety and diversity in these books will give each student in my class an opportunity to read books on their own independent reading levels and on grade-level.

Students will be able to choose books that pique their interest and help them invest in literature. I have chosen books that build self-love, character and diversity in the classroom to reflect my incoming third graders' backgrounds. During read aloud in my class students learn transferable reading skills that help enhance their independent reading experiences. Many of my students are coming into third grade a few grade-levels below in reading. Reading volume is central to reading development, especially in the development of fluent reading proficiency. Our classroom library will give students a plethora of books to guide them through their reading development yearlong!
