My students come from very diverse backgrounds and have very diverse interests. Our demographics are: 23% of students are African American, 19% Hispanic, 16% Asian, 2% Native American, and 36% Caucasian.
This project specifically supports our very curious students who are looking to learn about the world around them and deepen their knowledge about topics they are passionate about for the I-Search research paper they write in their junior English classes.
As the librarian at my school, I support their research by helping them find appropriate resources.
My Project
These books are to support our juniors who are writing their I-Search projects. For this research paper they are encouraged to choose topics they are passionate about and learn deeply about them. As their librarian, I work in collaboration with their English teachers to support them to practice research skills. We've recently analyzed our nonfiction section for currency and we definitely need some updates.
The books I've requested for this project reflect topics students are curious about and that our library needs updated materials for.
Requirements for this project include source material from print material (books), in addition to online sources, and even subject matter experts (experts in their fields).
This is a rigorous project and one that students and teachers alike get excited about. These books will help students satisfy their curiosity about their topics and practice their research skills in preparation for senior year and beyond, when they are expected to have perfected these skills.
