I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Headphones!

My Students

Can you imagine walking into a big, bright beautiful kindergarten classroom on the first day of school and imagining all the possibilities for the year to come? That's what my students and I do everyday. Outwardly, my classroom provides the safety, comfort and ideal setting for student learning!

Beyond our beautiful classrooms, the issues turn up.

Our school, still displaced in a temporary location following Hurricane Katrina, was never able to replace the materials we lost in the storm. The students entering my classroom never knew what school was like before August 29, 2005. The students coming in now enter with open minds and possibilities of the dreams they have of coming to school. They are eager and willing to learn. Their parents are engaged and want to be a part of their learning experience. I, as their teacher, want to provide them with the most effective, engaging, memorable kindergarten experience that I can! Unfortunately, my school district and I cannot do it alone. With budgeting downfalls, our children do not have the materials they need to be successful. That's where you come in!

My Project

Have you ever looked through every drawer in your house looking for a wire or maybe an extension cord? Do you know that tangled, jumbled, terrible mess of tied up, twisted up, goofed up wires? That is a huge problem in my classroom, only it's not extension cords, it is the spiral wires from our old, barely working headphones for our listening center. My students LOVE to listen to stories, phonics games, and other activities in our listening center but many times they spend more of our precious instructional time trying to untangle the mess of wires the group from the day before left or they put the headphones on and assume the craziest positions within inches of each other so they can listen while the wires stay jumbled. Wireless headphones would make an enormous difference in our classroom. Gone would be the hours of frustration and aggravation for five year olds trying to untangle the mess! We would have more time for fun, engaging learning!

My students are eager and willing to do whatever they can to make sure they learn.
