Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a beautiful group of 1st graders at FWGE in Texas. My kids come to school eager to learn and have weathered difficulties at home after Hurricane Harvey hit last year. Many of my students were displaced and had considerable loss and damage to their homes. Our school as well, had damage and many teachers lost valuable teaching materials. We are a Title One campus with over 90% of our students on free and reduced lunch. We are a campus with a high rate of turnover. Even with all the stress our families have been through, the children come to school with a smile and are enthusiastic about learning. Through their trials they have persevered with a fighting spirit.
I am so proud of my students and love being their teacher!
My Project
As far as technology, my classroom has access to four student desktop computers. If my project can be funded these iPads in the classroom will provide my students access to enriching tools including AR, Istation, Blueprint, Storyline Online, KahootIt!, SeeSaw, ChatterPix, Quizizz, Virtual Field Trips, and more. Children are captivated by technology and we should be utilizing this excitement more in the classroom. We should be teaching them about internet safety and proper etiquette on social media (i.e. SeeSaw). Their excitement for learning will increase when we allow them to use technology more in the classroom.
SeeSaw is an app students can use to take pictures of their work, draw, record videos and more to capture learning in a digital portfolio Quizizz is an engaging tool for quick formative assessments.
Through this, I will be able to check student's progress and feed into their competitive natures. I would love to use NearPod as an interactive lesson tool to reduce paper in the classroom and increase student engagement..
If this project is funded, we will have 5 iPads! The students will use these in stations during Math, ELAR, Science and even Social Studies. Gifted and Talented students will also be able to use these to work on their TPSP projects and experience other academic enrichment. Eventually, I would LOVE for every student in my class to have access to an iPad one day. This request seems like a small start, but it will make an INCREDIBLE difference and promote growth.
