I Scream! You Scream! We ALL Scream for Reading!!

My students need sets of non-fiction readers with rich content vocabulary to use in Guided Reading groups to guide our knowledge of using non-fiction texts.

My Students

Love them or hate them, the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have one positive by-product—an increase in the amount of informational text that students will hear, read, and write. My children are hungry for non-fiction- They cannot seem to get enough!

The students in my first grade classroom are as diverse in academic levels as they are in culture.

Our Title 1, inner-city school is "home" to almost 1200 students with a multitude of ethnicities. There are over 30 languages spoken in our school. They attend school in a district where poverty is an issue and many don't get the extra support at home that is needed to be successful in school. Our district is also facing financial troubles and we aren't able to get the materials and resources needed to help our students. At six and seven years old, despite any hardships, they are very excited about learning new things!

My Project

Having these leveled non-fiction books will enrich my students' lives through a wide variety of informational texts. They are working in leveled groups daily. Sometimes students tend to get discouraged because many informational texts are a bit too difficult for them to read. The books in these sets vary in reading levels. These books will help all of my students feel the success they need and challenge them to read more!

Having class sets of these fun and interesting books will benefit and challenge my little readers this year, but they will continue to be used year after year for the same purpose for many beginning readers.

Good books engage and inspire! Thank you for helping make reading for enrichment possible for my students.
