Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated learners, with a thirst for knowledge and a knack for technology. Like most children in today's age their interest is piqued when technology and learning are combined.

My students are in fourth grade and come from multicultural backgrounds.Like most children in today's age their interest is piqued when technology and learning are combined.

Our school has undergone several budget cuts, and catching up to the technology of today's age has been a real struggle at our school.

My Project

If our class received an ipad students would be able to use it during independent small group time. They would use a technological medium to motivate them to learn. Ipads have prove to be an asset to supplementing education. There are many apps for the ipad available so that children can visualize math concepts such as "Math Pieces", as found on www.igamemom.com. This app allows students to use virtual math manipulatives to understand such concepts as regrouping and place value. Students would also use the ipad to improve literacy. By fourth grade, many students who struggle with reading are not confident with reading and do not put effort towards improving, because they fear failure. We must find a way to help this students and reach them through their interests. If students were given an opportunity to use literacy and writing apps such as Neomad (where students read comic book type stories) or Superhero Comic Book Maker, students would be motivated to read and write!

This donation would help my students access 21st century learning.

It would help them access an ipad which most of them have not used themselves due to low incomes. Most importantly, it would help motivate students to learn who would otherwise feel insecure and lack confidence.
